Marva Sherman Counselling & Psychotherapy

What is Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy (therapy) are terms which are used to mean working with a trained and skilled therapist, to work with the difficulties you may be experiencing in your life and supporting you to make healthy changes.
The therapy can range from short-term work to help you with current difficulties, to longer-term work which may be working at a deeper level to make changes to the way you relate to yourself and others.

My style is warm, non- judgemental, compassionate and affirming.

My main way of working is using Transactional Analysis. This is an integrative model of looking at how you relate to yourself, the world and others in your life and is used as a powerful tool for making changes to what no longer serves you as an individual and developing new helpful ways of being in your relationships. click here for more information. Therapy is always tailored to suit your individual needs and I use evidence based psychological therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, EMDR and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy both in the NHS and private practice to support my clients.
I specialise in working with individuals and couples who suffer from depression and low self esteem I use evidence-based therapy known as Counselling for Depression and Couples Therapy for Depression.

Depending on your difficulties, we will discuss and form an agreed focus of work towards the changes you want to make. You may have a clear goal and focus or you may not. If you are unsure or you feel generally stuck this can be usefully explored in your therapy sessions.

Therapy can sometimes be experienced as difficult, painful and challenging when processing difficult emotions and making changes to unhelpful ways of being. My aim is to support you on your journey to well-being.
